Hazardous Waste Handling Facility

Berkeley Lab is proposing the continued operation of its Hazardous Waste Handling Facility (HWHF) under a renewed Hazardous Waste Facility Permit. The California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) is expected to issue the draft permit sometime in 2023. The HWHF, located at Building 85, has operated since 1997 for the proper management of regulated wastes that are generated primarily by research and maintenance activities.
